Public forum: Future of Forests and Communities on Vancouver Island, with presentations by former forest ecologist and Metchosin councillor Andy Mackinnon and Dr. Ben Isitt, Victoria councillor and CRD Director, about local economic alternatives to continued old-growth logging on Vancouver island. Co-sponsored by Island Forest Futures, Friends of Carmanah Walbran, Wilderness Committee and Juan de Fuca Forest Watch.
2. September 27th, Noon – 1pm, Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas St.
Stand Up for the Old-Growth Forests: A lunch-hour rally to support a resolution being introduced by local delegates at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities convention in Victoria to urge the provincial government to amend the Vancouver Island Land Use Plan to end old-growth logging on Vancouver island. Co-sponsored by Wilderness Committee, Friends of Carmanah Walbran and Island Forest Futures.
3. October 1st, 1-3 pm, Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Road.
Grand Opening of the artists’ exhibition Into the Magic: Artists for the Heart of the Walbran Valley. Refreshments will be served. Show runs until October 23rd. Profits from art sales will be donated to the conservation efforts of the Friends of Carmanah Walbran in the Central Walbran Valley. Organized by Coalition of Artists for the Walbran ( CAW)
4. November 4th, 6pm- 2 am, Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue
Wheels for the Walbran: Community Dinner, Concert and Dance, a benefit for the purchase of a mini-bus for group transportation to the Walbran valley. Chef Jon Cash of Soule Creek Lodge and Erika Heyrman of Wildfire Bakery will be collaborating to create a yummy meal and Vancouver eco-troubador and recording artist Luke Wallace and a special mystery guest will be providing the grooves for the night.
